Have you ever gotten a cow for your freezer and ended up with cube steak…how did it taste when you attempted to cook it up? Maybe a little like scrumptious LEATHER…Wait…what… scrumptious…NO WAY! For this reason, the cube steak has been piling up in my freezer for quite a while. Not Anymore!
Welcome back! Welcome back from what you say? Well, I got to go on a little special mom-only excursion this past weekend. I hope it was fun because I will not be able to do it again for about 15 years! Let’s just say my husband was VERY happy to have me back and so were my children…and probably more than anyone the babysitter I had during the days while I was gone! At any rate, because of that, I did not post on Friday and I am posting a little late today too!
Freezer Meal Cube Steak with Gravy
This week for my freezer meal I am making Brianna Thomas’ Cube steak with Gravy. It is on page 47 of her Necessary Food Cookbook. If you do not have this cookbook you can find a link to order it below. Brianna does a really nice job with her cookbook and I have enjoyed many recipes off her blog and from the book. Do not worry if you do not have the cookbook, this recipe is not online but I did find this recipe of hers that is similar, so you could use that for this week!
We do not need anyone missing out on their freezer cooking for the week just because they do not have the cookbook! Making this recipe freezer Style
Let’s jump right in and I will share my secrets with you about how to make this meal for your freezer. First up I have to say this is a SERIOUSLY easy one to make. It only took me about 15 minutes to prep four of these. Do I say EVERY week the recipe is easy to make? Well, I do try to choose meals that will not have me spending hours upon hours in the kitchen.
I usually make my freezer meals in aluminum pans like these below but this one works great just in regular gallon freezer bags too. The first thing I had to do was dig out all the cube steak from my freezer and there was a LOT of it! I then opened them and divided them into pans (or freezer bags). I did NOT thaw them. After they were loaded in the bags (or pans) I made the gravy and poured it over the top. That’s it! DONE cooking for the week YAHOO!!
Cooking Tips
Brianna suggests cooking this is the oven for a lengthy time which I am sure is a great option. I used my instant pot and I cannot even begin to tell you how AMAZING they were. I thawed them and loaded it all in and put some golden potatoes on top. When using my pot I did add a little broth because I needed more liquid only enough to satisfy my pot which was about 1 1/2 -2 cups. Next up, I set the pot to the medium meat setting. It went for 40 minutes and everything came out DELICIOUS!
If you do not have an instant pot, you should order one from amazon right this second. Just kidding! You really should have one, but if not you can also use a crock pot or do the oven like Brianna suggests.
