Can we get real with each other here??
Life is an adventure, and I don’t think I have ever met a woman that wasn’t struggling with food along this adventure. Some women, like me, struggle with keeping weight off. Other women (who I always considered blessed) struggle with keeping weight on. I always wished I could be one of those ladies, but the reality is that both women have major struggles, and neither situation is ideal.
In the long run, we have turned food into a God in our lives, and most people do not notice this. I’ve begun to realize how much my relationship with food is affecting my life. I’m not saying I have overcome this because, let me tell you, it is a daily struggle. Actually, who am I kidding? It’s not a daily struggle; it’s an hourly struggle!
The Food Dilemma and a new eating journey
The problem with food is, in our culture, food is obviously something we need! Something we simply cannot live without. In our culture, food just keeps getting better and better, and we are easily drawn AWAY from the foods that our body needs and drawn TO foods that are loaded with sugar and carbs and other awful things. When I started my Trim Healthy Mama (THM) journey I thought it was going to solve all my problems. Eating healthily is definitely helping my weight issues, but, unfortunately, it is not helping my food issues.
I’ve discovered that I needed to make my food journey about more than just food and eating healthy. The THM eating plan provides many ways that you can still make treats. But even though these are healthy treats that are good for your body, there is still the issue of overindulgence. Becoming obsessed with food can be a real issue. For us moms, this is hard to overcome because kids need to eat, and they seem to be hungry constantly! That means we are always around food. For me, being around food means always eating food too!
A Great Book
I absolutely believe that the Trim Healthy Mama (THM) eating plan is a way of life, and I know it will be a part of my life forever. Although I just felt like I needed more. I needed something to conquer my cravings. Something to guide me through my days and adjust my relationship with food.
I found it in Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst. This amazing book has taught me so much about the relationship I have with food. I’m not saying my journey is perfect, and those of you that know me personally know that I am no picture of perfect health and weight, but I can tell you I am a work in progress. And I AM progressing!
If you are looking for a book to go along with your food journey, one that makes it more of a spiritual journey, then you need to read Made to Crave by Lysa Terkhorst. I think this book will help in so many ways. For me, it’s something I have to return to often. I re-read this book and devotional many times. We get distracted and drawn away by many things each day but I need to be reminded of who is my God. I highly recommend this great book as an addition to any eating journey.
